Focusing on the part of interaction first, the initial concept of our fixture has led to its category being a desk lamp. The interaction that determined the fixture category is a gesture-controlled light setting, which will be focused on turning the lamp on and off initially and, depending on the complexities that arise, can be furthered to additional controls.
For the implementation of gesture detection, two time-of-flight distance sensors will be positioned at the opposite sides of a desk and programmed to detect abrupt movement from one side to the other. Motion sensors could be used as an alternative but the ideal scenario would not demand wearable parts. A NeoPixel attached to the base of the fixture can serve as an indication of lamp state, in place of the absent mechanical switch.
